Domed Butter Dish

  1. Hobnail, but with 6 point star on each hob and raised diamond at base. Very nicely done.

  2. The plate is 8” diameter and the dome is 6” in height.  The plate weighs 1 pound 11 oz and the dome 1 pound 7 oz.

  3. Looks to be an older piece.

  4. Wood polished.

  5. Mt Washington/Pairpoint, maybe New England or Boston and Sandwich - Help???

  6. Some similarities to Hawkes McDonald (or MacDonald).

  7. 11-5-06 - there is a bowl on ebay with this pattern, described as signed Libbey (290045861702)

  2. The front has an 8 ¼” Vessica, containing two large triangular fields of raised Hob Diamond Hexad buttons.  There are 16 point raised diamond Hobstars on each side, which are bordered with fields of smaller Hob Diamond Hexad buttons and framed by beaded double miters.  Five fans with, with nine points, surround the base.  There is a 32 point Staburst on the bottom.

  3. Suggested as Dorflinger work as the beaded double miters, diamond shaped blocks and Hobstar center motifs are his hallmarks according to Pearson’s Encyclopedia on pp 34 & 54.

  1. Bowl weighs 3 lbs. 8 oz. with an 8" in diameter and is 3 1/2" deep.  The glass is 3/8" thick

  2. Combination of hobstars (the center of the four large hobstars are not cut), fans and cane which forms the outer boundary of a vessica.  The nine squares of intersection in the bottom each has a star surrounding a hobstar.

  3. Similar in layout to an Allen bowl shown in Plate 724 of Sinclaire/Spillman "Complete Cut & Engraved Glass of Corning".
